Christmas Cake for Andy & Nancy

This blog is my holiday cake profile. Starting the Tuesday before Christmas, I had been busy baking (and most importantly decorating) cakes for friends just in time for the holidays. Since I took the cake decorating class, I have been crazy about baking/decorating cakes. It was a nice cake project for me to practice decorating skills. I had lots of fun. Also I’d like to thank my hubby Richard for helping around the house and with the kids while I was busy working on the cakes. Looking for more cake projects to come!

X’mas trees: sugar cones with leaves (#352), yellow lights (#2 or 3), poinsetta flowers (#16), star tree toppers (#17) then dusted with powder sugar. I made the Xmas trees first(leaves, lights and flowers ornaments) from bottom up until the very top, then set aside on rack. After positioning the trees on the cake then I finished up the tree with the star tree toppers. For non-icing cake top, I “glued” the trees with white icing to make them stable on the cake(and thus creating the “snow” under the trees!). Words: #4(round), 16(star). Crazy strings around the Romero cake: #2. Bow ties on Eppenberger cake: #16. Presents on Eppenberger cake: 2 pieces of chocolate squares glued with icing and string is #2. Basket weaving on Allison cake: #47. Rope border on Allison cake: #16. Hearts on Allison cake: #12. Bead border on Eppenberger cake: #12. Reverse shell border on Lupe cake/shell border on Romero & Nishihira cake: #16. Snowflake design on Andy/Nancy cake: snowflake ornament on top of cake then dusted with powder sugar. Dusted powder sugar comes in handy for creating “snowy” feel for the holiday! Colors used: Leafy green, No taste Red, Lemon Yellow, Brown.
