Today is the first day of Chinese New Year, start of the Year of Boar. Wishing you all a very healthy, happy, peaceful and prosperous year ahead.
Ever since I was a child, Chinese New Year has always been my favorite holiday of all times. I like it better than my own birthday and Christmas– no school for few days, new clothing and shoes, lots of red packet $$$, lots of new year snacks and good food, got to visit friends and relatives (for more red packets!)– pretty much eat, drink, play and sleep, what can be better than that!
This year we didn’t go back to Malaysia for Khern’s new year gathering. I miss my parents/brother/sisters/friends over there. I was eating dinner last night and thinking what reunion dinner would be in my parents’ house. To Chinese reunion dinner is the most important meal in a year. No matter how far away people work, they always want to return to parents’ home in time for this big feast. Hopefully we can join the love ones in Malaysia next Chinese New Year.
We were planning to have some new year lunch/dinner plans this weekend but unfortunately we have been sick one after the other so I haven’t cooked any good food for family and friends. Luckily Chinese New Year runs for 15 days so I still have some time to do that. In the meantime I just have to get plenty of fluid and rest.

We too miss you all and Justin’s party of three! In your absence, the reunion dinner for four of us was at at its lowest tune in the Khern family history! However, we had canned shark’s fin soup (brought by Belinda), braised front pig leg (hong ter car) and spring rolls as our main dishes. Perhaps 2008 will be better!
Yes 2008 will be better! It’s flu season and people have been sick. I still have some cough/allergy combinaton. The Chinese New Year dinner with Larry’s has been put off twice to March. I hope it won’t be delayed anymore or else it will be my birthday dinner instead!
